GRADUATE STUDENT PAPER PRIZE The Society for Urban, National, and Transnational/Global Anthropology is pleased to announce its annual Graduate Student Paper Prize competition. Students in anthropology MA and PhD programs are invited to submit papers pertaining to urban, national, and transnational/global anthropology and/or any of the areas of interest to SUNTA, including refugees and immigrants, poverty and homelessness, and space and place. The winner—to be announced at the 2008 AAA meetings—will receive a $250 cash prize plus favorable consideration for publication in City and Society. The prize is not restricted to U.S. programs or U.S. residents. The prize is not restricted to SUNTA members or to those who have participated in SUNTA programming. Guidelines: Papers should be submitted to Gautam Ghosh at gghosh@sas.upenn.edu on or before August 1, 2008. Submission by email is preferred but not required (contact gghosh@sas.upenn.edu to make other arrangements). Papers (a) must draw on original ethnographic research and (b) cannot have been previously published. Co-authored submissions are acceptable provided all authors are graduate students; co-winners would share the cash prize. Papers should be no longer than 25 double-spaced pages including notes, citations, etc. Formatting is flexible but authors should be clear and consistent throughout. UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT PAPER PRIZE The Society for Urban, National, and Transnational/Global Anthropology is pleased to announce its second annual undergraduate student paper competition ($150 award). We seek submissions from faculty on behalf of their undergraduate students for papers that address issues pertaining to urban, national, and transnational anthropology, and/or any of the topical areas of interest to SUNTA, including space and place, poverty and homelessness, and refugees and immigrants. Guidelines: The deadline for submitting papers for the 2008 SUNTA Undergraduate Student Paper Prize is August 1, 2008. Students (and their nominators) need not be SUNTA members, but submissions will only be accepted from faculty. Students may not submit papers on their own behalf. Papers should be no more than 25 double-spaced pages (including references and citations). We do not ask for a specific format for citations, although authors should be consistent throughout. The winner will be announced at the 2008 AAA meetings. We would prefer all submissions by email to lknauer@umassd.edu. Other arrangements may be made by contacting Lisa Maya Knauer at the above email address. PRIZE FOR THE BEST STUDENT PANEL AT THE 2008 AAA ANNUAL MEETING SUNTA is also pleased to announce a new prize for the best student-organized panel presented at the 2008 annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association in San Francisco, California. Guidelines: To be eligible for this award: 1. The panelists and panel-organizers must all be current students (although a non-student discussant is acceptable). 2. The panel must be submitted by the regular April 1, 2008, deadline to the American Anthropological Association. 3. SUNTA must be marked as the reviewing section in that submission. 4. Deborah Pellow, SUNTA’s program chair, must be notified of that submission by email: dpellow@maxwell.syr.edu.
